Gary York, CEO
Gary York is a serial entrepreneur and technologist with a track record of starting and growing software and services technology companies. He has held technical and executive positions with leading technology companies in Boston, Silicon Valley, and Alabama. Gary is currently Chief Executive Officer of Help Lightning, a leading innovator in virtual interactive presence. Help Lightning develops and delivers mobile communication, collaboration and cognition through merged reality and virtual interactive presence for users in 50 countries. He is a winner of the Smithsonian Innovation Award and an EDPA Lifetime Achievement Award for Innovation. He is President of the Birmingham Venture Club, and on the Board of TechBirmingham, the McWane Science Center, and Urban Avenues. Gary and his wife Cathy have two children. He is an avid runner.
Marc Guthrie, COO
Marc Guthrie is Chief Operating Officer of Help Lightning. Prior to joining Help Lightning, Marc served as the Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Delivery Services at Influence Health (formerly MedSeek, which was sold to a private equity fund) where he was responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of Influence Health’s product engineering teams, quality assurance, information architecture, client hosting operations and corporate IT. Marc has over 25 years of hands-on and leadership experience across a variety of industries, including healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing and Distribution, and Financial Services. He has extensive experience designing and building Enterprise class Software Products and Solutions. Marc was the Co-Founder of ComFrame Software Corporation (which was sold to NWN Corporation) in 1997 and served as its Chief Executive Officer and President until 2010. From 2010 until joining Influence Health Marc served as Vice-President of Application Development Services practice at NWN.
Drew Deaton, CFO
Drew currently serves as Chief Financial Officer of Help Lightning, Inc. Previously, he held operations, finance, and executive roles within MedMined and CareFusion. He began his career at Ernst and Young, working with entrepreneurial and technology companies. During his time in Research Triangle Park, NC, and Birmingham, AL, he worked with many venture-based startups as well as large public and private corporations in information technology, biotechnology, software, medical devices, medical services, and healthcare technology. Drew holds a B.S. in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and a graduate degree from UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Neal Evans, CTO
Neal Evans, PhD., is chief technology officer at Help Lightning. His interests include artificial intelligence, computational physics, and evolutionary algorithms. His contributions range from the theoretical to the practical, including advances in machine learning, physics, and theoretical optics, and application of these concepts to health informatics. Neal is a member of the American Physical Society (APS), the Optical Society of America (OSA), and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). He has published in various scientific journals and books, and is a former board member of the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club and volunteer for Carpenter’s Hands in Birmingham, Alabama.
Scott Sobera, Senior VP of Sales
Scott Sobera is Senior Vice President of Sales at Help Lightning. His career has led him to work with a variety of early stage, growth-oriented companies in sales leadership roles. Always up for a good challenge, his past companies includes Accelarad (now Nuance Communications), Optimal Readings (now Aris Radiology), Awarix (now McKesson), ComFrame (now NWN), The Trizetto Group and Nichols TXEN (now CSC Healthcare Solutions Group), With over 25 years of selling experience, working in a variety of industries, Scott has a nuanced ability to understand, communicate and deliver software technology solutions to individuals and business that can benefit from them the most. Away from work, Scott enjoys spending time with his family, coaching youth sports, playing golf and hunting. He holds a bachelor's degree from Auburn University.
